WOMEN INHERITANCE 1. CREATED TO INHERIT I will try to be very polite and brief while discussing this woman inheritance topic so that I hit the nail on the head, the topic of whether women should inherit their fathers is very absurd. We are not supposed to be having this kind of talk if we were positioned in our rightful positions. When Chris called me and said you are going unite my body by positioning them in their rightful places in the kingdom of God, I did not know what he was talking about but now I know. Isaiah 1: 18-20 “Come now, let us reason together,” says the LORD. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool. If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the best from the land; but if you resist and rebel, you will be devoured by the sword.” For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.” I now will only talk to people who are reasonable and are willing to reason, the word of God invites us to reason with God. First things first, why was man created? God has an answer to this question. Genesis 1: 26 “Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, b and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” Man is made to rule over all God’s creation including earth or land. A man is the custodian of all God’s creation, not a woman! So why was a woman created? God has an answer as written in. Genesis 2: 18 “The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” The woman was specifically made for a man as a suitable helper for him, let me hope you all know what the word helper means. This is not a matter of competition or grabbing the inheritance, you must know your position in the society and in the kingdom of heaven, because inheritance is also spiritual. For example; if you are born a prince, then you are a prince by birth, it is not debatable, you are just a prince and nobody can change that. Genesis 3: 17 “To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat of it,’ “Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life. 18 It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field. 19By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return.” Let me teach you something about the above scripture; God is saying to Adam that if you were not created in my image, I would have put a cursed on you direct, but now that you are my image I will curse the law material that your body is made of. Then God said to Adam “Cursed is the ground because of you.” This is what it means; if Adam remains obedient and led by the desires of the Holy Spirit, the curse will not affect him, because the soul and spirit came from heaven, if a man fails to live an obedient life and is led by the desires of the body then the curse on the soil will get him and affect him because the body is made of the soil which was cursed. A man must persevere the thorns, the sweat and continue to cultivate the land until he gets food out of the soil; that is his passion as given by God. However today if anyone is in Christ and Christ is in him he is above this curse. What about the woman, where should women dig? God has an answer to this question. Genesis 3: 16 “To the woman he said, “I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.” Let me be plain so that everybody will understand me; the woman is the man’s garden where a man plants his seed and is expected to harvest children, now the garden of a man was cursed to bear pain when giving birth to the man’s children. Look at this; the desires of a man will come from the soil because he was made out of the soil. The desires of the woman will come from the man because she was made out of a man’s rib. The woman has no right to inherit or even own land because it is the raw material for the man. Then what should women do? The answer is simple invest in your husband because he is your raw material and your desires must be serviced by a man and finally he is your ruler. These are not my words but God’s word. 2. INHERITANCE RIGHTS AS GIVEN BY GOD. There is one fundamental question; “who gives rights?’ all believer know that rights are given by God. Whatever God gives you then it is yours as a right. The woman was never created to be independent of man that is why she is not supposed to own land. It is actually an abomination for a woman to own land. The Right of the Firstborn Deuteronomy 21:15-17 “If a man has two wives, and he loves one but not the other, and both bear him sons but the firstborn is the son of the wife he does not love, when he wills his property to his sons, he must not give the rights of the firstborn to the son of the wife he loves in preference to his actual firstborn, the son of the wife he does not love. He must acknowledge the son of his unloved wife as the firstborn by giving him a double share of all he has. That son is the first sign of his father’s strength. The right of the firstborn belongs to him. I hope you can see, the bible has all the answers you are looking for. The rights of the firstborn cannot be taken away from him, says the Almighty God. We should learn to respect the word of God and be content with the rights God has given us. 3. WHY A WOMAN CANT INHERIT Land is a small portion of inheritance, here we are talking about something bigger than obtaining property to inheritance or becoming hair to her father. It is not possible for a woman to be hair because a woman is like a garden, she has no seed, when she gets married to a Muganda she will produce Baganda, if she gets married to Acholi she will produce Acholi, it is the husband that has a seed which when planted becomes pregnancy and children. Bear with me for being too straight forward. One of the key element of inheritance is continuing the ancestral lineage or genealogy, for example of linage of Jesus according to Mathew 1:1-2 “A record of the genealogy of Jesus Christ the son of David, the son of Abraham: Abraham was the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers.” This genealogy moves with in the family, you can’t get married outside the family and continue the linage. Simple advice if a man does not have a son and wishes her daughter to inherit his linage then he should prepare her daughter by giving her in marriage to her nephew so that the children produced belong to the woman not the father. Otherwise a woman on her own cannot inherit her father. 1 Corinthians 11: 7 “A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man.” There are very many things and doctrines going wrong around women worldwide. This is what the above scripture means; everything the man has and does must glorify God, while everything the woman has and does must glorify man. The word glorify also means: Glorify (Worship, Adore, Lionize, Exalt, Deify, Elevate, Venerate, and Praise) I want to assure you that if any woman does these things to her husband, she will surely die the happiest woman in the world. You don’t need to inherit anything, your husband is enough inheritance but you must give him all the glory. Deuteronomy 25: 5-6 “If brothers are living together and one of them dies without a son, his widow must not marry outside the family. Her husband’s brother shall take her and marry her and fulfill the duty of a brother-in-law to her. The first son she bears shall carry on the name of the dead brother so that his name will not be blotted out from Israel.” 4. CLAN HEADS PETITION AND IT’S ANSWER In the Bible; Numbers chapter 27 and chapter 36 we have two groups of people putting their cases before Moses and God and one case overrules the other. The daughters of Zelophehad first made their case and God granted them to inherit their fathers land. Then the clan heads also presented their case why women cannot inherit their fathers land. In their case they said that land belongs to clans but women get married outside clans meaning that the land would cross to another clan since women produce children for the clan of the father, and whatever a married woman possesses belongs to the husband. The land would shift to the clan of the husbands. Then God gave a new law that overruled the first one, saying that if a woman or girl wishes to inherit property of her father she must marry the nephew from the man’s side, so that the land can remain in their clan. Inheritance of Zelophehad’s Daughters; Numbers 27:1-11 “The daughters of Zelophehad son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Makir, the son of Manasseh, belonged to the clans of Manasseh son of Joseph. The names of the daughters were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah and Tirzah. They approached the entrance to the Tent of Meeting and stood before Moses, Eleazar the priest, the leaders and the whole assembly, and said, “Our father died in the desert. He was not among Korah’s followers, who banded together against the LORD, but he died for his own sin and left no sons. Why should our father’s name disappear from his clan because he had no son? Give us property among our father’s relatives.” So Moses brought their case before the LORD and the LORD said to him, “What Zelophehad daughters are saying is right. You must certainly give them property as an inheritance among their father’s relatives and turn their father’s inheritance over to them. “Say to the Israelites, ‘If a man dies and leaves no son, turn his inheritance over to his daughter. If he has no daughter, give his inheritance to his brothers. If he has no brothers, give his inheritance to his father’s brothers. If his father had no brothers, give his inheritance to the nearest relative in his clan, that he may possess it. This is to be a legal requirement for the Israelites, as the LORD commanded Moses.’ ” Most confusing people read the above scripture with the intention of trying to confuse the flock of God, or seeking their own interests, but the truth is in Numbers 36:1-13. When I say that I am called to position the servants of God, people think that that it is self-exaltation. But here is the truth; the kingdom of God has many offices that you may not even know that they really exist. The clan heads are in charge of clan and family issues according to the bible, and God respects and listens to them. Read this below! Inheritance of Zelophehad’s Daughters; Numbers 36:1-13 “The family heads of the clan of Gilead son of Makir, the son of Manasseh, who were from the clans of the descendants of Joseph, came and spoke before Moses and the leaders, the heads of the Israelite families. They said, “When the LORD commanded my lord to give the land as an inheritance to the Israelites by lot, he ordered you to give the inheritance of our brother Zelophehad to his daughters. Now suppose they marry men from other Israelite tribes; then their inheritance will be taken from our ancestral inheritance and added to that of the tribe they marry into. And so part of the inheritance allotted to us will be taken away. When the Year of Jubilee for the Israelites comes, their inheritance will be added to that of the tribe into which they marry, and their property will be taken from the tribal inheritance of our forefathers.” Then at the LORD’s command Moses gave this order to the Israelites: “What the tribe of the descendants of Joseph is saying is right. 6This is what the LORD commands for Zelophehad’s daughters: They may marry anyone they please as long as they marry within the tribal clan of their father. No inheritance in Israel is to pass from tribe to tribe, for every Israelite shall keep the tribal land inherited from his forefathers. Every daughter who inherits land in any Israelite tribe must marry someone in her father’s tribal clan, so that every Israelite will possess the inheritance of his fathers. No inheritance may pass from tribe to tribe, for each Israelite tribe is to keep the land it inherits.” So Zelophehad’s daughters did as the LORD commanded Moses. Zelophehad’s daughters—Mahlah, Tirzah, Hoglah, Milcah and Noah—married their cousins on their father’s side. They married within the clans of the descendants of Manasseh son of Joseph, and their inheritance remained in their father’s clan and tribe. These are the commands and regulations the LORD gave through Moses to the Israelites on the plains of Moab by the Jordan across from Jericho. Let me advise my sisters, whatever you do or achieve in marriage belongs to your husband and whatever the man achieves belongs to you as well. If you have land or inherit hand and you get married that land transfers to your husband that is the law according to God. You must accept the position God has put you, if you want to enjoy this short worldly life because fighting or frustrating your husband is like fighting God. Do not block your own doors I beg you. If your provider is not God, then you can do whatever you want and nothing will happen, but if God is your provider please don’t try this at home. 5. A CALL FOR REPENTANCE There is a religious leader who misled the nation during the funeral of Late Prime Minister Apollo Nsibambi in Namirembe Cathedral. With due respect I will request you to please apologize to Buganda kingdom and the clan heads who are responsible for handling the inheritance issues in Buganda. Your actions slapped the Kingdom and clan heads in the face yet they are appointed by God to do their work just as you are appointed by God to do your work as a high priest. Unfortunately you left your line of duty and performed clan head’s duty and you performed it deceitfully. Most women conferences use your statement, in advocating for women inheritance laws. The damage was too big and can only be reversed if you apologize to God, Buganda Kingdom, the clan heads and the entire Christian community. Thank you and May God soften your heart and give you courage to put things right. Amen.
